In 2006 he received a Distinguished Member of the Signal Regiment Award at a U.S. Army/AFCEA conference. General William S. Wallace, Commanding General, U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, presented the award to Renzi which is for "prestigious or notable military or civilian persons who have made a special contribution or who have distinguished themselves in service to the regiment."

"Gene was devoted to his family, his faith and his country - and he was a strong advocate of AFCEA and their education program," said George J. Pedersen, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer, ManTech International Corporation. "This scholarship is a fitting tribute to Gene and an excellent way to help advance the knowledge and scholarship of our nation's youth."

"Education is AFCEA's number one priority," comments Kent Schneider, President and CEO, AFCEA International. "We are pleased to honor the memory of our good friend Gene Renzi by presenting this scholarship in his name, preserving Gene's legacy and commitment to education."
