ManTech successfully introduced an interior infrastructure protection system known as PROTECT - a Program for Response Options and Technology Enhancements for Chemical/Biological Terrorism.

The program protects Metro passengers from chemical/biological agent incidents and mitigates the consequences. Results have shown that in a terrorist attack involving chemical agents, this integrated technology interface system reduces overall response time from 31 minutes to only 5 minutes, saving countless lives and greatly reducing physical damage.

PROTECT is a systems-based approach for responding to complex terrorist attacks involving weapons of mass destruction. The approach involved:

• Threat assessments and vulnerability analyses
• The development of response strategies and system upgrades
• Specialized training, system maintenance and testing
• Computer simulation and field measurements modeling facility airflow
• Decontamination, detection and warning plans/exercises
