ManTech is an AWS Government Partner

ManTech accelerates AWS Cloud Migration securely and reliably.

ManTech’s DNA is grounded in security.  Since the beginning of cloud computing, we’ve been focused on the re-platforming of sophisticated, mission applications to secure, cloud service driven and fault tolerant applications for government customers. Our work focuses on programs that have spanned hundreds of application migrations to the AWS cloud. Our customers benefit not only from our vast experience but also from a variety of customized migration options.

ManTech has invested in and developed a structured cloud migration methodology entitled LaunchRAMP™ to assist our many cloud programs in the migration of on-premise to cloud.

ManTech is proud to add AWS Migration and DevOps to our longstanding status as an Advanced AWS Partner with Government Competency within the AWS Partner Network (APN)

NASA

Image and Video Library

Customer Need: For NASA, providing the public with easy access to the wonders of space has been a journey. In the early 2000’s, NASA began providing online access to photos, video, and audio as media capture began to shift from analog and film to digital. Before long, each of NASA’s 10 field centers was making its imagery available online including digitized versions. It took a lot of digging around to find what one wanted and five to six copies of the same image were often found and described in different ways.

Our Approach: By 2014, like many government agencies, NASA was trying to get away from buying hardware and building data centers which were expensive to build and manage. The cloud provided the ability to scale with ease, as needed, paying for only the capacity used instead of having to make a large up-front investment. As the prime contractor for NASA WESTPrime and an advanced AWS consulting partner of the AWS Partner Network (APN), InfoZen chose to build the solution on Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Result: Through its use of AWS, NASA is making more than 140,000 still images, audio recordings, and videos – previously in some 60 collections across NASA’s 10 centers – easily discoverable in one centralized web location. The benefits of this project include: easy access to the wonders of space through NASA Image and Video Library, built-in scalability, an agile, scalable foundation to “do all kinds of amazing things” in the future, and, good use of taxpayer dollars. Read more...

Moving NASA to the Cloud for Cost Savings & Efficiency

Customer Need: NASA wanted to embrace the cloud and consolidate web hosting, operations, and security activities to reduce costs, improve performance, and comply with federal mandates, while still maintaining control of its websites and applications. Under the Web Enterprise Service Technologies (WEST) Prime contract, NASA sought a cloud-based solution for internal and external websites and web applications, including services such as content management.

Our Approach: In only 13 weeks, ManTech migrated 65 websites and applications to the cloud using its LaunchRAMP® Enterprise Cloud Broker Solution, including the agency’s flagship NASA.gov website. We consolidated and integrated web service delivery capability for Sandbox, Development, Test, Staging, and Production environments, and provided NASA.gov with a completely new architecture based on cloud technologies. The portal is now designed to handle a significant load and defend against security attacks.

Result: Following the migration, NASA is now saving more than 25% in monthly operations and maintenance costs and has streamlined application modernization within a secure, FedRAMP-compliant environment. The new cloud-based infrastructure will enable NASA.gov to rapidly scale to handle the 600,000 unique visits per day and 140 million unique visits per year that the site receives. The evolution from a proprietary content management system to a cloud-based open source model has enabled new levels of collaboration across geographically dispersed NASA facilities and partners throughout academia and industry, and the shared services approach is delivering new levels of transparency into IT performance while empowering the organization's content creators to update online assets in minutes rather than hours.

Enabling Agile Software Processes

Customer Need:  DHS wanted to create a paperless electronic immigration system that will streamline nearly all of the agency's processes and help it operate with more efficiency.

Our Approach: ManTech worked with Agile Development teams to integrate and operate software products using open source tools to provide continuous software integration and delivery services for DHS. ManTech integrated work products of up to twenty agile development teams, automated end-to-end development and DevOps processes, managed builds, and provided configuration control. ManTech also plans to establish an Open Source-based Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Delivery (CD) pipeline to enable a standardized and repeatable automated build and deployment environment to enable frequent delivery of high-quality software.

Result: ManTech created a highly-automated CI pipeline, which allowed the agency to more quickly create production-ready code. The CD pipeline provided the ability to quickly deploy multiple staging and production environments, and the production deployment window was reduced to two hours while ManTech maintained a 100% production deployment success rate. ManTech migrated all environments to Amazon Web Services, created instance automation, and automated the creation of environments via infrastructure as code. As a result, DHS was able to stand up a production-like environment of 30+ servers from scratch in less than a week.

Transportation Threat Assessment Support

Customer Need: To protect the country from terrorists transporting hazardous materials, DHS needed a secure, reliable framework to ensure that commercial driver’s licenses are not issued to drivers posing a security risk. This required a solution that could handle detailed tracking of over 2.7 million license applications and renewals per year.

Our Approach:  ManTech tailored an identity-based screening solution to provide a robust, web-based suite of tools that can accept applicant data, acquire criminal record search results, and automate an initial determination of driver acceptability. Using a natural language processor (NLP) to pre-classify applicants based on specified rules and text returned in criminal records and other data sources, ManTech provided DHS with a streamlined solution to a complex problem.

Result: Using ManTech’s intuitive interface and streamlined platform, DHS adjudicators can now make accurate eligibility determinations backed by comprehensive audit trails. Furthermore, DHS can take advantage of comprehensive, effective document management capabilities throughout their application processing cycle.

 Mission IT Transformation

Customer Need: A component of DHS wanted to move its IT infrastructure (Servers, Network devices, ADEX, SharePoint, RIM and IOS, databases, SANs and NAS, and related tools and appliances) from legacy data centers to the DHS Private Cloud – and it needed to be load balanced and virtualized between 2 geographically dispersed facilities.

Our Approach: ManTech delivered IT Engineering Operations Support services, including: Program Management, Systems Engineering, Security Engineering, Multiplatform OS, Middleware and Database Support, Multiplatform Storage Management and Control, Multiplatform System Administration and Capacity Planning, and SharePoint Services, to achieve DHS’s goals. We provided operations and maintenance (O&M), software application development, database development, for more than 40 mission critical applications. ManTech  provided infrastructure engineering support to DHS’s Active Directory/Exchange/SANS/VM environment, as well as security initiatives.

Result: We successfully transitioned from the incumbent contractor in 22 days even though the proposed plan was 60 days. Due to unexpected customer needs at the time of award, ManTech  was requested to transition in this accelerated time period, which we did successfully. This accomplishment was due to the agility and commitment of our company, the quality of our people, and our experience supporting mission critical IT infrastructure. We have reduced DHS’s IT costs, data center footprint and energy costs, maintenance and support costs, and positioned the agency to support “as a Service” offerings in the DHS Private Cloud to its diverse constituencies. ManTech was noted by the customer for excellent continuous quality delivery of designs, excellent preparation of changes to the infrastructure, and excellent engineering work.
