Are you a veteran or transitioning from the military to a civilian career? Are you looking for a career change? Do you have a much-needed government security clearance? If the answer is yes to any of these questions, pay close attention. You are in high demand.

In today’s job market, having a security clearance can provide a major advantage. The government and defense services industry need qualified employees with current and/or active security clearances for a wide range of skill sets. From engineering to cyber intelligence, networking, administrative support, communications and more, cleared professionals are indeed in high demand.

Employers and recruiters agree - the shortage of cleared professionals results from a backlog of applicants awaiting clearances. In fact, by today’s methods, the exhaustive process can take longer than a year for a top secret clearance. ManTech President and CEO Kevin Phillips joined several industry peers to recently testify before the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. The panel made it clear that not having cleared professionals needed to support vital roles weakens our industry and association partners. “We believe that the current backlog of more than 700,000 clearance cases constitutes a major national security issue,” Mr. Phillips stated. “The backlog impacts mission, efficiency and jobs.”

At ManTech, we support some of the country’s most mission critical national security programs. To do so effectively, we seek top talented and cleared professionals to accomplish our mission objectives.

A candidate with the right skill set, experience and security clearance is extremely valuable to our industry. Therefore, if you are unsure about your security clearance, connect with your security officer before leaving your current job, contract or before you separate from the military.

The best advice I offer those transitioning from one career to the next is to be sure to do your research. Reach out to the organizations that provide resources to those seeking advice; know your strengths and discriminators and finally maintain your clearance! Having a security clearance is most definitely an added value within today’s job market, so always list your clearance on your resume and cover letters.
